D Street Studios is a 1.3 acre former yarn mill in what’s called Harrowgate, in Kensington, Philadelphia. Apiary Studio was brought on to design street-side garden beds and foundation planters to blend seamlessly with the brick walls and cobblestone commons of the repurposed multi-use studio complex. Along D Street at the front lobby, we fashioned garden edging from diamond plate panels salvaged from the building, a motif that is repeated in D Street’s signage. We also designed two raised brick beds to abut the smokestack and loading docks, all filled with plants that will be encouraged to grow quite tall and lofty to bring a sense of scale and touch of wildness to a bustling creative hub.
