Apiary Studio was honored when multidisciplinary Philadelphia-based artists Nadia Hironaka and Matthew Suib contracted us for help in fabricating and planting out a terrarium that would serve as the film set for their exhibit entitled FIELD COMPANION. The palette of plants and fungus we used was based loosely on the unique Pine Barrens habitat that encompass much of Southern New Jersey. With footage taken within the two-way mirrored walls of the terrarium, the artists recreated a supernatural microcosmic forest floor, adding a soundtrack and animations to serve as a meditation on the symbiotic and collaborative relationships in forest ecosystems that sustain coexistence and community. FIELD COMPANION is projected onto gallery walls for a fully immersive, fantastical effect. FIELD COMPANION has been exhibited at Rowan University Art Gallery in Glassboro NJ and at Locust Projects in Miami, FL to date.
