Located in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, this homestead-style residential side yard makes the most of a sharply acute corner lot. It incorporates a blend of new bluestone and re-used brick to form a parking pad that can double as an outdoor dining area. We worked gingerly to maintain the grade to support a mature, stately silver maple, alongside which a re-purposed concrete rubble stepping stone path leads to an intimate, comfortable conversation and fire pit nook at the back of the site. Apiary Studio played with the style and character of the nearby iconic Liberty Lands, a former industrial brownfield-turn-community-run park by a grassroots neighborhood effort in the mid 1990s. All masonry, carpentry, metalwork, and plantings were performed in-house.
