Apiary Studio was hired by the Belmont Alliance Civic Association, CDC to develop the masterplan to convert a collection of vacant lots into a neighborhood pocket park. Apiary Partnered with Asarum LandDesign Group to implement a community engagement process that explored the hopes and visions of neighborhood stakeholders with a focus on active and passive recreation, as well as community gathering and play. The park is anchored by a paved event plaza and performance pavilion on the site’s East side, with children’s play equipment and a splash pad located nearby. A walking trail serves as the design’s central organizing element, allowing for the dispersal of programming throughout the site’s perimeter for smaller, user-specific spaces. The project will be implemented in phases over the coming years, as the Alliance raises funds to build distinct activity clusters such as community gardens, a play area and an exercise circuit.
